We leave Afghanistan tomorrow! We are getting out of this place and heading home! Tomorrow, hopefully we will get out smoothly. First stop, Manas Air Base in Kyrgyzstan. Next stop, make our way to crazy old Fort Dix, NJ. Then, get out of that place and go home! That is about average during the day here at this time.

Adventures from the Girl Next Door. Thursday, May 5, 2011. What a wonderful week! Let me count the ways. First of all, I was awake and bushy tailed for the Royal Wedding on April 29. We watched the whole event live and I frequently checked the internet for updated photos of the dress, guests and those hats.

I love to paint! I have been painting since I was ten on canvas and I have pictures all over my house and my relatives houses too. I love bright colors and I also have one that is my favorite. It is of the ocean and it is at night with a pale yellow moon and is tented purple. One of my favorite things to paint i something like the moon or the sun reflecting in the water.

The only downside to traveling to beautiful remote places is the lack of help should an emergency arise. Next are some smoke generators. These are very useful to allow a helicopter to read the wind when landing. GOES is an independent emergency response organization headquar.

As I write this I have less that two hours left in my duties here in Central Asia. The time is a bittersweet time; I look forward with intense anticipation and excitement to seeing my family again and reacquainting with friends, but I also will be sad to relinquish command of this great squadron.
